Who We Are

Steven Franco

Founder

Steven Franco is the visionary creator of BarrioFit, a movement rooted in culture, energy, and community. Raised between New York City and New Jersey, Steven grew up immersed in authentic Latino culture. As the son of two Dominican immigrant parents, he developed a deep appreciation for Latin music, movement, and togetherness—values that became the foundation of BarrioFit.

BarrioFit is Steven’s mission to create an inclusive space where people connect through health, wellness, and Latin culture, blending fitness with celebration and community.

A former elite track and field athlete, Steven brings over 10 years of sprinting experience, earning two High School National Championships and six All-American honors. He competed at the Division I level on a full scholarship at Rider University before continuing his collegiate career at Southern Connecticut State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a minor in Exercise Science.

Beyond competition, Steven spent five years running a sports performance and personal training business and served as Director of Sports Performance for the Charlotte Independence, a professional USL soccer club. His background in elite athletic development shaped his coaching philosophy—high-energy, intentional, and performance-driven.

As a Zumba® instructor, Steven uniquely fuses athletic training, dance, and Latin rhythms into every BarrioFit experience. Each event reflects his passion for movement, culture, and bringing people together—transforming workouts into unforgettable community moments.
